Zein February Camps 2019

ABOUT THE CAMPS
During the upcoming February holidays, we will be running exciting Multi-Activity Camps where our Little Explorers (ages 4-6) and Big Adventurers (ages 7-12) can discover new interests and further develop their talents! Naturally, the camps run simultaneously with the holidays of all key international and Dutch schools in The Hague, on weekdays from 08:00 - 18:30 hrs.

Having a full and varied programme at all out of school care locations, there is always something for every child while attending the camp - from numerous exciting activities to outdoor & indoor sports and recreational games and complementary field trips with all campers. The programme is carefully put together as it is arranged per age group to ensure children of all ages will have great fun and are able to learn new skills.

The camps will be running at all five Zein locations across The Hague. Please see the sections below for more details on the dates, programme and daily organisation of activities.

FIELD TRIPS  
Each camp week will also include two entertaining field trips! All campers of the French Lycee will enjoy 2 extra field trips (Children's Book Museum and Speelparadijs Zuiderpark) as their school will be closed for two weeks.

  • TRIXS (Leidschendam) – Indoor trampoline and beach sports park
  • The National Museum of Education (Dordrecht) – Consist of over 350.000 education objects from textbooks, wall-charts, ink jars, atlases, photo’s and educational films to diaries and schoolbags.
  • Children's Book Museum (The Hague) – Step into the world of famous Dutch children's books (French Lycee at The Elms only)
  • Zuiderparadijs (The Hague) – Indoor playground (French Lycee at The Elms only)

CAMP PROGRAMME

Programme for The Maples (Bomenbuurt, edge of Statenkwartier & Vogelwijk)

Please note: The programme for The Maples specifically covers the holiday days of the European School, but the holiday camp location is open to children from all schools in the surrounding area. Click the link to find out more about The Maples.

Monday 25 February
All little explorers and big adventurers gather round - the February Multi-Activity Camp is about to commence! We kick off the week with arts & crafts. The Little Explorers will be making a Friendship Rainbow Fish and Coffee Filter Butterflies. Also, they will be performing a Puppet Show to entertain everyone. The Big Adventurers will discover the art of salt painting with water coloring. For those who cannot get enough of being creative, they can make themselves a Origami Bookmark to take home with them. And before we start the 'Capture the Flag Game', we will make our own team flags. As usual during our camps, all days will be complemented with sports and recreational games.

Tuesday 26 February    
Field trip: The National Museum of Education
Today we will be heading to The National Museum of Education which has the largest collection of educational objects in the world! Here, all campers big and little will travel through time - when it comes to education. Back at base camp, the children can indulge themselves in various sports and recreational games of choice.

Wednesday 27 February    
What's cooking today, campers? Well, let's see what's on the menu! All campers will be chefs for a day as they will be making a delicious 'Cake in a Mug'. Sticking to the theme, the Little Explorers will be crafting a frying pan with a pancake in it! The Big Adventurers will experiment with art made using nail polish. Did you know you can make beautiful marble patterns using this? We are already looking forward to the beautiful result.

Thursday 28 February
Field trip: TRIXS
During this field trip, all campers can showcase their coolest moves under careful and strict supervision of the staff of TRIXS and Zein. After a fun, sporty morning, both little and older athletes still can get their groove on doing various sports and recreational games indoors ánd outdoor, if the weather permits.

Friday 1 March
On the last day of February Camp, the campers can wrap their heads around engineering challenges. The Little Campers will be challenged to construct a Cardboard Castle, whereas the Big Campers will be having an engineering challenge with craft sticks, cups and cubes. And while the Little Explorers will be making an ingenious wind car and colourful Mardi Gras Paper Plates, the Big Adventurers will create their own board game and emoji masks.

All campers will be making a rhythmic shaker. Then, the little explorers will add a handmade tambourine to their instrument collection and the big adventurers will make a cardboard guitar. Let the Music & Dance Competition begin!

Please note: The Multi-Activity Camp at The Elms will run for two weeks as the Half Term Holidays of the Lycée Français lasts from February 18th – March 1st.

*FIRST WEEK*

Monday 18 February
On the very first day of February Camp​, music will be our theme for the day. The prepare ourselves for the Music & Dance Competition later this day, we are going to make some instruments first! All campers will be making a rhythmic shaker. Then, the little explorers will add a handmade tambourine to their instrument collection and the big adventurers will make a cardboard guitar. Let the Music & Dance Competition begin! As usual during our camps, all days will be complemented with sports and recreational games.

Tuesday 19 February    
Field trip: Children's Book Museum
All campers will pay the Children's Book Museum a visit where they can wander around in the world of famous children's book characters such as 'Frog', 'Dikkie Dik' and 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. The older campers go on a book journey where interesting books for older children will be addressed. Back at base camp, the children will be joining various sports and recreational games

Wednesday 20 February    
All little Jamie Olivers, Donna Hays and Yotam Ottolenghis gather round the kitchen counter! The younger campers will be preparing healthy yogurt parfait popsicles and the older chefs will be making mini chicken pot pies. After we've finished these, its time to get a little bit more creative. Therefore we get crafty and will be making either a cone octopus or paper ninja stars. Afterwards, our friends of the HSV will join us and we will join them in doing fun and varied after school care activities.

Thursday 21 February
Field trip: Zuiderparadijs
The Zuiderparadijs is the region's biggest indoor playground with a slow motion race course (even the little campers can safely join!), trampolines, climbing objects, slides, mega Lego blocks, air hockey and so much more. Of course, all the children will be strictly supervised by our teachers and Zuiderparadijs staff. Bach at The Elms, we will join our friends of the HSV and participate in various activities.

Friday 22 February
Before heading into the weekend, the campers will be challenged in paper-folding skills. The Little Campers will be making origami animals and boats. Did you know that it not only requires creativity, but also challenges one's math reasoning and spacial reasoning? The Big Campers will be making paper spinners. Making your own spinners, that might come in handy! Before the children of the HSV will join us, we we will making a delicious snack: cupcakes!
