A Typical Camp Day

A typical day at a Zein Holiday Camp

We pride ourselves on developing fun and engaging camps, which are individual to their surroundings and the number of children on camp, but our guide gives you a sneak peek of what happens on camp.

Camp is attended by children from the age of 4, who have started primary school. Children are grouped according to their age – Young Explorers are typically 4-6 or 7 years and Great Adventurers are 7 or 8 to 12 years. Some themed sessions are shorter for our Young Explorers, and the children are gently guided in their choices and options, whilst our Great Adventurers are given more autonomy and control over the shape of their day.

Daily, we offer a range of organised sports and/or activities on camp and every day is different, as is every venue, so the list below is intended as a general guide only. Clearly, there are also regular toilet breaks, opportunities for the application of sun cream, hand washing and so on, which are not specified in detail below.  We also always make sure that fresh water is available throughout the day for all the children.  Parts of the programme below are not applicable on days we go on field trips.

08:00 – 09:30

Arrival & free play – breakfast snack

Children can arrive from 08.00am – and we ask that all children are with us by no later than 09:30 so we can get started with the day.
Breakfast is served for those who want from 08:00 – 09:30.

09:30 – 10:00

Morning Meeting and Activity Preparation

A chance to come together and discuss the plans and activities for the day – and to allow children to express their preferences or share their ideas.

10:00 – 12:00

Theme Based Activity / Activity

On a Monday this first session often takes the form of a team building/group activity to help ensure that the children get to know each other and ‘gel’ as a group. Smaller groups are formed and a choice of the day’s activities is offered. The activity could be indoors or outdoors.

12:00 – 13:00

Wash Up & Lunch

Children wash up ready for lunch. Lunch is prepared fresh by our staff – wholesome food such as wraps, pasta or rice, cooked meats, cheese, fruit and vegetables are all daily favourites.

13:00 – 13:30 Quiet Time / Free Play A moment for the children to relax after lunch and engage in their choice of quiet activity, on their own or with friends. Younger children have a longer period of free play before joining the next session.

13:30 – 15:30

Theme Based Activity / Activities

Smaller groups are formed and a choice of the day’s (indoor and outdoor) activities offered – building on skills, techniques, projects etc.

15:30 – 16:10

Afternoon Snack

Some light refreshments for our busy campers – fresh fruit, vegetable crudités are part of the afternoon snack offered.

16:10 – 17:30

Outdoor Sports / Recreational Team Games

A time to come together and have some fun – a range of age appropriorate games and activities are played with the leaders taking part too.

17:30 – 18:30

Start of Pick Up Time

Activities & Free Play

As some of the early pick ups start, all children have a choice of continuing with a planned activity or playing with some of the toys and games put out for their use. Outside play is always one of the choices on offer.

Centre Closes

Last children are collected and staff prepare for another exciting camp day to come…

While the centre closes at 18:30, we ask you to arrive not later than 18:20 to give you and your child time to prepare for home as well as receive an update from a teacher

The precise timing of field trips can vary according to the location being visited, and whether we are joining up with children from other Zein Camp locations.
