Day Care children visit 'big school’
Over the past few weeks, our day care and pre-school teachers have started to gradually prepare the children in our care for their move to ‘the big school’. One of the activities assisting our staff in ensuring that the children are positive and enthusiastic about going to school after the summer is a visit to the Foundation 1 classes of the British School in The Netherlands.
Beforehand we spent much time with the children talking about the visit and all of the ‘’new and exciting things’’ they will get to do. As the children arrived to the classrooms smiles appeared on their faces as they enjoyed a range of indoor activities set up for them, and explore the playground – the perfect place to run into siblings and old friends from Zein.
The transition serves to prepare all transitioning children – regardless of the school that they will ultimately attend, as we know from experience just how helpful – and exciting! – it can be for all our children. However, as a good number of the children in our care will go to the British School the visit also allowed our carers to share some valuable insights with the BSN teachers, allowing for example for important friendships to stay intact.
