Our After School Care teachers prepare fresh, nutritious food on-site every day.
Meeting the nutritional needs of children
At Zein we believe that nutrition is one of the most important aspects of a child’s development. A healthy, balanced diet and regular physical activity is essential for children’s health and well-being. Young children are growing quickly – they have high energy and nutrient requirements comparative to their their size. They also eat smaller amounts than older children and adults, so it is important for them to eat regular meals and snacks that contain sufficient energy and nutrients for their needs. Special dietary needs can normally be accounted for if teachers have been informed in advance.
Experiencing a wide variety of foods
It is important that children in After School Care strike the right balance between a healthy and fulfilling snack and eating too much before dinner at home later. Our after school menu includes plenty of fresh fruits and organic vegetables, supplemented with cooked meats or fish, pasta, rice, and bread. Cold and warm snacks are offered on alternate days throughout the week. We make it a priority to ensure that every child in our care eats as healthily as possible and experiences a range of wholesome options throughout each week.
An example of the weekly menu:
Monday: Fresh baked baguettes with cherry tomatoes & feta cheese.
Tuesday: Whole wheat tortilla wraps with spreads and cold cuts
Wednesday: Lunch: Rice with chicken, corn, tomato sauce & white beans (for the early dismissal schools)
Snack: (Greek) Yogurt with fruits, honey and cinnamon
Thursday: Couscous with mixed vegetables
Friday: Omelette with bread slices, spreads & cold cuts.
All of Zein’s food and drink is sourced from an organic supermarket chain that believes that when we treat the soil well, the result is healthy, tasty products, full of nutrients and rich in taste. The products have no synthetic fragrances, colourings, flavour or preservatives.
